Every

Every. single. one. of. them.
Thought I’d never leave.
Every. single. one. of. them.
Have regretted the day I left.
Every. single. one. of. them.
Took advantage of my kind love.
Every. single. one. of. them.
Treated me like I was replaceable.
Every. single. one. of. them.
Tried desperately to win me back.
Every. single. one. of. them.
Desired me, admired me, loved me.
Every. single. one. of. them.
Couldn’t love me all the way through.
Are. you. one. of. them. too?

This

This thing between us is powerful.
Immensely palpable, nearly tangible.
I think I can actually strum the
string that pulls us together.
It seems to keep us tethered
even when we’re miles apart.
And in those moments we share the
same space, we explode without
breaking into a million pieces as this
thing also inexplicably keeps us whole.

Broken

I know I’m broken because
I cry in the shower,
though I live alone.
I’m afraid to even
witness my own tears
because if I see them,
If I feel, they will pour like rain.
I know I’m broken because
I’ve been here before.
But I’m not ready to put my
pieces back together because
the time that work requires
could take someone only a
second to break again anyway.
I know I’m broken…
